Gardein Skillet Meals Review(Video)

gardeinskilletmealsfirstimage.jpg

When I started my vegan journey back in 2010, I didn’t cook from scratch much, so I wasn’t sure how to put a vegan meal together for the fam.

I appreciate brands like Gardein, because they make super convenient options for folks who don’t cook or those who don’t feel like cooking.

I’m all for making this journey simple, delicious, long-term, and fun!

When I heard released Gardein’s four flavors of skillet meals, I had to review it on my YouTube channel.

Check out the full video below...

**The actual review starts at 1:32**

I tested out all four flavors after picking them up at Target & Harris Teeter.

gardeinskilletmeals.JPG

The current options: Chick’n & Fried Rice, Chick’n Florentino, Italian Style Rigatoni n’ Saus’ageChick’n & Fiesta

Cost: $7.50 at Target & $7.99 at Harris Teeter

Overall thoughts: The package says it serves two but the serving size seems much smaller than that. I love that each skillet only takes about 10 minutes to make.

Is there a favorite one? I enjoyed the Chick’n & Fried Rice the most.

Will I buy it again? Probably not. Even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the skillet meals, I’m excited this option is available. Plus, since it’s a new concept for Gardein, I know they will improve it like so many of their other products.

Visit gardein.com to see where you can pick up these vegan skillet meals near you.

Field Roast Hand-Formed Burger Taste Test Video

When I started my vegan journey back in 2010, I remember not being the biggest fan of veggie burgers made from beans. The mushy texture just wasn't my style and I wanted something more familiar.

These days it's easy to find burgers with a firm texture and delicious flavor.

I was excited to see the whole line of Field Roast vegan products at Safeway (a regular grocery store) last week.

It's good to know that Field Roast products are becoming more accessible because I remember you could only find them at Whole Foods and other health food stores.

Their products are just too good to be a secret!

In this video, I try their hand-formed burger on camera for you. :-)

Watch it here...

When you're ready to transition your family to more vegan meals, it's helpful to have good meat and cheese alternatives to make this lifestyle change possible.

All three of my kids love this product, so I will definitely buy it again!

I paid about $6 for four patties at Safeway, so I will say this product is pricey for a family (we need 2 packs for our family).

Field Roast Hand-Formed burgers are juicy, flavorful and have the firm texture that we expect from a burger.

Using a little oil, It takes less than 6 minutes on medium heat to fry up these patties.

Simple. Familiar. Delicious.

Just Mayo is the vegan mayo I used -- You can find it at Target.

My fave homemade vegan burger is here

Vegans Can Eat Scrambled Eggs, Too! Follow Your Heart Vegan Egg Review

vegan-scrambled-egg-demo-thumbnail (1).001.jpeg

Can vegans eat scrambled eggs? Yes ma'am!

I remember hearing rumors about a vegan scrambled egg about 2 years ago and Follow Your Heart finally launched it!

So why not just scramble a chicken egg?

  • Vegan eggs are more sustainable - 1 dozen chicken eggs = 6.6 worth of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Eating eggs is animal cruelty - This article breaks down the horrors of the egg industry
  • High in saturated fat & cholesterol; which increases your chance of heart disease & diabetes This video sums up (in 60 secs) why eggs aren't healthy...

What is the Follow Your Heart vegan egg made out of? The first 3 ingredients are whole algal flour (ingredient derived from algae), whole algal protein and modified cellulose

The product is gluten-free, non-GMO and soy-free

Where can you order it? I purchased mine from Amazon but Rabbit Food Grocery (vegan grocery store in Austin) has it too.

I will say that I've never been a fan of scrambled eggs, so my opinion may be biased because of this. lol

Many people in my YouTube comments had great success with the product, so if you're a egg lover this may be perfect for you.

Watch me prep, scramble and eat the scrambled eggs with my kids below...

Some tips:

  • Use a blender to make "fluffier" eggs
  • Black salt will give it more of an "egg" flavor
  • Be sure to also use other seasonings that you would typically use when making your eggs
  • Make sure you're using COLD water to make the eggs
  • Practice makes perfect - don't give up if it doesn't work the first couple of times.
